University of Nottingham Futsal’s Jonathan Alvarez Olieff and Joe Payne have been called up to the England Futsal Senior National Team for the Home Nations Tournament in December.
Jonathan Alvarez Olieff is a University of Nottingham scholar studying a Masters in Clinical & Molecular Microbiology alongside with the opportunity of a phd funding 2019 and with his role as Tissue Co-Ordinator at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. He has been rewarded for his consistent high quality performances for the England U23 squad and University of Nottingham Futsal with his first selection to the senior national team.
Joe Payne has been selected following his inclusion with the England squad previously for fixtures against Poland. Joe is a University of Nottingham scholar studying a Masters in Applied Sport and Exercise Medicine. Payne has progressed through the FA England Futsal Talent Pathway from Centre of Excellence, Under 19, Under 23 to Senior and has continued his tremendous development since becoming first choice keeper at University of Nottingham.
Since the introduction of the new Performance programme targeted at developing and nurturing home grown talent since 2017/2018. University of Nottingham Futsal has seen ten players be selected to represent the senior or age group international teams following none previously.
The Home Nations Futsal Tournament will see England take on Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland between the 30th November and 2nd December in Newry, Northern Ireland. England are reigning champions winning the Home Nations Tournament 2017 in Scotland.
