MATCH REPORT | University of Nottingham Futsal defeat Derby Futsal Club 2-1 in the FA National Futsal League in a competitive encounter in front of a crowd of 200+ supporters.
University of Nottingham Futsal going into the game were top of the table following their first 8-1 win against Birmingham City University Tigers in their opening game of the 2017/2018 season last weekend. Whilst Derby Futsal Club were set on marking their return to the FA National Futsal League following a 18 month rebuild.

The opening to the game saw University of Nottingham dominate possession with Rob Symes, Dan Slater and Lewis Bonsell combining with National League captain, Pav Tomczak to establish a strong foothold in the game. Following substitutions, the great work continued with Joe Kenny scoring the first goal of the game to give University of Nottingham the advantage.

University of Nottingham Futsal continued to threaten the defence of Derby Futsal Club and extend their lead. However Derby were a physical and direct opposition and against the run of play were able to counter attack to level the score 1-1 through Manny Freeman.

Derby Futsal Club continued to impose themselves on University of Nottingham Futsal with both teams creating chances before Derby gave away a sixth foul in the fifteenth minute, awarding the Green and Gold squad a 10metre penalty, emphatically dispatched by Pav Tomczak, taking the score to 2-1 at the half time interval.

Following half time both sides competed to establish control of the game, each enjoying spells of momentum and testing goalkeepers Joe Payne and Richard Hankey in goal. As the match progressed University of Nottingham Futsal maintained possession for long periods frustrating Derby Futsal Club resulting in a goalless second half and handing University of Nottingham Futsal with the win.

Head of Performance Futsal, Marc Forrest gave his thoughts following the club’s 2-1 victory; “We are delighted with the result. Derby were as we expected and provided us with different challenges that our players managed extremely well. The priority for us today was to play our way, manage the game, compete and earn the three points which the players did. It was a fantastic atmosphere and we are extremely grateful to everyone that came to support the squad.”
