University of Nottingham National League player, Ryon Leyshon shared his thoughts and spoke with us this afternoon about the new 2017/2018 season.

You were part of both National League wins against Liverpool and Sheffield. How are you enjoying life at University of Nottingham this season?

Ultimately, the team’s success is the most important thing, so I’m really happy that we’ve kicked off the new season in such a positive way. Everything feels really positive in and around the club right now so it’s a great place to be.

What are your thoughts on the new performance programme at University of Nottingham and the changes in recent months?

The performance programme this year is outstanding. The level of detail towards every aspect of our sporting life shows depth in knowledge and understanding of how supporting athletes as people, on a wider level, can be so conducive promoting optimal performances on the pitch.

There is an exciting mixture of youth and experience in this years squad. What do you make to the young players coming through?

The youth players are actually developing a Futsal mindset. Which, for me, was never possible, as we were always football players trying to play Futsal, at that age. The ability for the younger players to really challenge the experienced players in every training session and challenge players for starting places in the team, shows the exceptional standard they are at. A very promising future lies ahead for them!

Atletico Birmingham is the first home fixture on November 19th, what do you expect from that fixture and how are preparations going in training?

In the first home game, after a few more weeks of perfecting our play style and becoming a lot more cohesive as a team, I’m expecting a very strong performance that will show our ability to both dictate the game pace whilst also using the systems we’ve practiced to create and take opportunities, resulting in a secure win. Ideally with few goals conceded in the process.

Head of Performance, Marc Forrest said: “Ryon is an exceptional individual to have as part of the club. He offers a huge amount on and off court and have only the highest praise for his efforts and commitment to what we are doing this season.”

Ryon will join up with the National League squad as they continue to prepare ahead of the clash with Atletico Birmingham in a few weeks time.
